Behavior Modification: Similar to operant conditioning, behavior modification can be defined as the alteration of behavioral patterns through the use of learning techniques(such as biofeedback or reinforcement). This method can be used to help decrease the likelihood of unwanted behaviors to occur.
Biofeedback: The process in which electronic monitoring of an automatic bodily function is used to train someone to acquire voluntary control over that function. For example, athletes may use tens units to help relax their muscles.
Self-Control: To control one's impulsive behaviors. Self-control is an important skill to have as it can prevent the occurrence of bad situations and help maintain good relationships. It can be improved by practicing it in every day situations, and comes with maturity.
Stress
Short-lived stress can be a good thing as it helps you to focus and heal faster.
Chronic stress can destroy minds and bodies. Those who suffer from chronic stress are more likely to experience digestive, circulatory, respiratory, and infectious diseases. Certain races have this problem due to racism, leading to certain groups being healthier than others.
How stress effects the body: damages cells, increases blood pressure, increases likelihood of blood clots, increase likelihood of strokes and heart attacks, increases sensitivity to gut acid, increases likeliness of getting sick, increases appetite for carbs and causes weight gain, causes chronic diseases, causes acne and hair loss, etc.
There are three kinds of external stressors:
Catastrophes
Significant Life Changes
Everyday Inconveniences
Coping Strategies: methods used to maintain and decrease levels of stress.
